Hello Mid-Atlantic Illustrators, To date we have recieved only a small number of submissions for our Mid-Atlantic Illustrator challenge. In the interest of getting more of our illustrators to participate, we will extend the deadline for another three weeks. Final art is now due on Tuesday, July 22nd. This will be the absolute final date art can be accepted so we have time for the judging and printing. Banner art may be submitted at any time during the year (see specs below). This deadline is for the notecard challenge only. If chosen, this is a fantastic opportunity for you to have your art handed directly into the hands of our stellar Fall conference faculty! Please submit only ONE IMAGE per person. Good luck and happy creating! Here are the specs again for submitting art: ATTENTION ALL SCBWI/MID-ATLANTIC ILLUSTRATORS OUR REGION IS SPONSORING TWO “CALL FOR ART” CHALLENGES (A PDF of these guidelines are avaiable under the For Members Only tab at midatlantic.scbwi.org) Call for Art #1: Mid-Atlantic SCBWI Note Card Challenge In honor of our 35th anniversary, we hope to craft a set of notecards—featuring artwork by our Mid-Atlantic illustrators—to be used as door prizes and gifts for faculty at regional conferences and events. Similar to SCBWI Bulletin covers, we invite you to create an original illustration that incorporates a kite into the artwork. Eight to twelve images will be selected from those submitted by a panel of industry professionals. Winners of the challenge will be recognized at our fall 2014 conference and their artwork will be featured on the cover of future editions of the Highlighter. Specs: 4 ¼” x 5 ½, final print size with an additional ?” bleed (the finished art size should be 4 ½” x 5 ¾” making sure nothing critical falls into the bleed area) Guidelines: Please read these instructions carefully! Submissions that do not follow these guidelines will be disqualified. 1. Submit your entry by midnight EST on July 1, 2014. No files received after that time will be considered. 2. E-mail a single, high resolution (300 dpi JPEG, titled with your name (firstname_lastname.jpg) to scbwimaillo@gmail with the subject “SCBWI Mid-Atlantic 35th Illustration Challenge. The image must be sent as an attachment. Do not send a link. Do not paste into the body of the e-mail. No original artwork should be mailed. All submissions must be digital, (although artwork may be rendered in any media). You will receive a confirmation e-mail within three days. 3. Judges will select winning entries. Winners will be recognized at our Annual Fall Conference, October 24-25, 2014, and featured on our region’s webpages on the international SCBWI website: scbwi.org. 4. You must be a current SCBWI Mid-Atlantic member to win. 5. To be included in the gallery of submissions at scbwimidatlanticchallenge.blogspot, note in the body of your email: “Include my entry in the Gallery of Submissions. Call for Art #2: Mid-Atlantic SCBWI Website Banner We have a need for banner art for our region’s homepage on the new international SCBWI website. If you would like to submit, please send your files for consideration to: scbwimaillo@gmail with the subject line “SCBWI Website Banner Submission” Art specs for banner art: 600 x 118 pixels, color or black and white. (Banner art may be rotated on a quarterly basis if more than one design is selected. Winners will receive SCBWI Carrier book bags and Mid-Atlantic notecard sets and will be notified in advance if/when their art will be featured. Any suitable childrens related theme will be eligible. However, art that embodies the uniqueness of our Mid-Atlantic region—which serves members living in Virginia and Washington, DC—is most desired!
