Hello Moto: Motorola tries for a comeback in China Many in #China will still remember the old catch line “Hello Moto”, used for the popular Motorola phone before its withdrawal from the Chinese market in 2011. Now the name is trying for a comeback, this time under Chinese mega brand, #Lenovo. The U.S. smartphone maker made its official return to the world’s largest #smartphone #market on Monday, launching three new #phones, Moto G, Moto X and Moto X Pro. After Lenovo bought #Motorola Mobility from Google for $2.9 billion three months ago, the Chinese company has been working on the customization of the new products. The three new phones can all support 4G networks and voice assistant in Chinese. Most notably, Motorola will also introduce its Moto Maker Studio in China, allowing customers to personalize their phones’ looks. With the cheapest Moto G costing only around 200 dollars and Moto X around 500 dollars, Motorola seemed to be determined to break into the Chinese market with affordable prices, and to stand out from the fierce competition with cellphone brands like Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi. Meanwhile, on wearables, Motorola also hit the market with a new Bluetooth smart earpiece Moto Hint. According to Lenovo’s executive vice president Liu Jun, this is only the beginning of Motorola’s fresh start in China: “Our pivot is towards emerging markets, to get a piece of the action from the fast growing smart devices market. And we will enhance wearables, online services and the product eco-system for better user experience.”
