Hello. My name is Anne J Steves and I am a Welsh/Canadian visual artist currently living in Victoria, BC. I am working on an artist book project with Open Space Arts Society about string figures (the most widely known being The Cats Cradle game) and the process of learning these community based forms through the problematic distance of an ethnological text. In my research I have found that there is a local connection to these forms in the history of indigenous peoples on Vancouver Island. I am wondering if you know of any people that still practice/ play string games, here or elsewhere? Any help, thoughts, connections or stories would be great. Please feel free to pass the word on.
