Hello! My name is Hope. My story is kinda long, but it’s part of what makes me special. You see, a nice person who works for HSEC found me at the local shelter. I had just been brought in and I was in pretty bad shape. I was covered in fleas, had bloody wounds from scratching, and worst of all...my breast tissue hung below my knees. I had been used for making SO MANY puppies that I had become deformed. It’s embarrassing, but my breasts hung so low that I even urinated on them when I had to use the bathroom. I never thought someone would come for me, but the people at the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina saw something in me. I think it was partially because even in my dismal state, I gently leaned up against them and wagged my tail. So they took me in and put a plea out on my behalf, and wonderful people donated money for me to get surgery! I was very happy that so many people cared about me! I had my spay surgery & a quadruple mastectomy. Although the doctors were very skilled, I developed internal bleeding after my surgery and had to go to the emergency clinic. It was very scary, but my foster mom stayed with me the whole time. They said they almost lost me, but I hadn’t come this far just to give up! Everything was going great after that. I stayed in my foster home and I was spoiled rotten! I love to lay on the couch while my foster mom plays games. I’m a great snuggler, too! I enjoy a short walk now and then, but I prefer my nice, comfy crate and something to chew on. One day, they noticed that I was chewing on my foot a lot. It looked like I had an infected toenail! However, it got worse very quickly...and the vet said the toe needed to come off! Luckily, the surgery was an easy one and I was up and walking around later that day! I don’t miss that toe. And the doctor said that now that it’s gone, I shouldn’t have any more issues like that again! So here we are. I’m around six years old and I’ve been in foster for almost five MONTHS. I love it there, but I really would love a family to call my very own. I do have some arthritis, but the medication to make me feel better is very cheap! I love children, and will always choose to be near them if they are around. I make a great snuggle buddy, and I am 100% housebroken. If you give me something soft to lay on, I will quietly lay there and enjoy a good snooze or a yummy bone! I really hope I can find my forever family soon. I’m ready to start the next chapter in my life...the one where I’m a beloved family dog!
