Hello, Please pass on the attached outreach to anyone you believe may be interested in joining us in beautiful northern Wisconsin. We plan to post the vacancy to USAjobs in January of 2014. The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Great Divide Ranger District is announcing an upcoming vacancy for a Forester (Timber Management Assistant), GS-0460-9/11 position. This is a Permanent appointment with a Full-time tour of duty. It is an Assistant Ranger position and member of the District Leadership Team. The duty station for this position will be Glidden, Wisconsin. The position reports directly to the District Ranger and serves the Great Divide Ranger District as the program manager responsible for: •Managing the District timber management program. This includes developing the annual program of work, preparing project work plans, developing long and short term budget needs, setting priorities and laying out work schedules. •Overseeing the timber sale preparation and sale administration program. This includes determining staffing and equipment needs; determining sale area boundaries, layout, and harvest systems; overseeing the cruising and marking of timber; determining sale volumes; overseeing the preparation of timber sale reports and appraisals, and preparing timber sale contracts. •Serving as a member on interdisciplinary teams for NEPA projects and coordinating with other resource managers and specialists to ensure integration of the timber management plan with other resources and activities. •Ensuring that the timber sales are implemented in a manner that is consistent with the silvicultural prescriptions, NEPA documents, and Land and Resource Management Plan goals and objectives. •Providing technical and administrative supervision to several permanent and seasonal subordinate employees. Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is located in the beautiful Upper Great Lakes Region of the Midwest and Wisconsin’s Northwoods, covering over a million and a half acres. The Chequamegon side of the forest covers about 858,400 acres in Ashland, Bayfield, Sawyer, Price, Taylor, and Vilas counties while the Nicolet side covers nearly 661,400 acres in Florence, Forest, Langlade, Oconto, Oneida, and Vilas counties. Renowned for its four seasons of natural beauty, it is home to a diverse array of northern hardwoods, pines, and meadows. It is bountiful with lakes, rivers, and streams.
