Hello River readers from sunny Moline, Illinois and the annual Mississippi River Conference. Here is the link to your Friday edition of the Mississippi River Basin Water Resource Weekly News,” including the better bits of news we could assemble throughout the past seven days while simultaneously attending the Mississippi River Network’s annual meeting and the aforementioned Conference. The past week’s worth of River-related news found the U.S. EPA in the spotlight quite a bit. The agency approved a contentious new mix of herbicides for use in the Midwest that many say will prompt the emergence and spread of more and new herbicide-resistant weeds. The Pennsylvania DEP and a small business group suggested that the EPA pull the controversial Clean Water Act jurisdiction proposed rule (others opined otherwise), and an EPA fish tissue, methylmercury health protection criterion is exceeded in a quarter of U.S. streams. There was other, non-EPA River Basin news, as well, including the two events here in Moline, and you can find them here: ow.ly/CSvIG
