Hello Skaters and Patrons, The movement of the Lake - TopicsExpress

Hello Skaters and Patrons, The movement of the Lake Wenatchee Winter Recreation Association’s rink to the Kahler Glen Resort has been a huge success. During Christmas week there were 50 to 60 skaters on the ice at most times. It was a great shake down for the facility and the enhanced procedures that have accompanied the new venue. The inclement weather has given us a break to determine what needs work. This work, and the success of the rink, is fueled by volunteers. Therefore the first priority is to assure that a good volunteer base is secured and trained. Thanks to a faithful handful, our grand opening of the rink was very successful. But this volunteer base should be several layers deep to insure uninterrupted rink operation throughout the season. There are many ways that you can assist as a volunteer, however there are two pressing challenges that must be addressed immediately. First, there is an urgent need for several volunteers to serve in the lead capacity of directing the activities of maintaining the rink while I am out of the Country. These periods are Jan.19-31, Feb.8-16, and Mar.16 -27. Between now and Jan 19th I will be available to train these lead volunteers in all things concerning maintaining the rink. If this task is not performed, and depending on what the weather brings, the rink will likely close Jan 19th, not to reopen again until Feb 2nd, if then. The second pressing issue is the requirement to have one rink attendant present at all hours that the rink is open. Rink attendants will be trained prior to their volunteer service. They can be on the ice skating or stationed as observers off the ice. Attendants can leave the area as long as they pass the task to someone else present. If that person can’t be recruited, the rink must be closed at that time, and remain close until another attendant steps forward. Thanks again to those volunteers that have brought the Lake Wenatchee Winter Recreation Association this far. Also, thanks to all those who have made monitory and equipment donations. There are many ways to support this effort. Gary Schuster LWWRA
