Hello! We attended the Council meeting on Tuesday about HWY 26. - TopicsExpress

Hello! We attended the Council meeting on Tuesday about HWY 26. Several citizens pointed out many facts about the 4 lane HWY, then being replaced by another 4 lane HWY with a curb, for $40 million dollars. They asked the city to approve the full 6 lane expansion or nothing at all. This will help businesses with a One time construction, plus add turn lanes for those backed up areas along the HWY. We were in agreement for curbs, but only with a 6 lane HWY. Councilman Chris Putnam immediately set forth a resolution to encourage a 6 lane HWY, and Mike Taylor second the resolution. The FULL council voted I, but the Mayor voted Nay. The resolution was passed! Citizens and business owners were over joyed with delight. Next came the turn back option (does Colleyville take over the HWY, or give it back to TXDOT for later repairs?). As the council dove off into the option, the Mayor over whelming beat down on each member of council because of the resolution the council members just approved. With a Flip Flop move, Mike Taylor lead a charge of a misunderstanding of Putnams Resolution. AND - supposedly thought that Putnams resolution was to approve the 4 lane for sure, and to ask TXDOT for a 6 lane expansion if possible. (Take the time to read the resolution citizens! It NEVER says anything about approving a 4 lane.) Putnam has been against a 4 lane replacement with curbs, from the get go. What makes the council think he all of a sudden had a change of heart? Just silly! It was confirmed what kind of politics residents of Colleyville have endured for the last 10 years. So be assured....They will Present a request for 6 lanes, but rest assure too, that it will not be approved. I would be shocked if it was. So Colleyville....Get ready for a $40 million dollar, 4 lane HWY replacement with a curbs and plants. And YES it is a Beautification Project Mike Taylor. Go on your 10 minute rant and chastise citizens for speaking up, but you have not sent any hard facts as to why we need another 4 lane HWY. When the traffic numbers FACTs by TXDOT shows we dont need it either. Again - We already have 4 lanes. Also Mike, you misquoted the inflated driving numbers on Glade road (Trying to compare it to HWY 26.), the numbers in the most heavily traveled area is 6,000 cars one way, and 6,000 the other. Some areas were 6,000 cars total ..... Not 17,000 traveled. This project will be a disservice to our community. Last - I find it funny that some of the council was happy to give exceptions to a new hotel, but was chastising another company over a 9.5 feet of variance. I forgot to mention that the hotel is 40 feet OVER height, way under area for parking, doesnt meet the restaurant code, and is trying to figure out who will allow them to park oversized vehicles. The Mayor went on for another 10 minute rant of how this property was designed for a Hotel, Dry cleaners, Martial arts studio, etc. Anyone ever seen a 70 foot tall dry cleaners? Me either! But oh yea! The city is enforcing the rules! Just ask long time business Reds BBQ. They were forced to pull their BBQ flags from the front of their store this last week, or receive a ticket! Be Heard! Your voice!! Your Colleyville!!!
