Hello again! I would like to draw your attention to an upcoming event called the Day of Silence. The Day of Silence is a student-led national event that brings attention to the anti-LGBT harassment and bullying that is present in our society and schools. The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) helps to support this event every year. Every 4 out of 5 gay teens report being bullied at school. LGBT Teens are 2x more likely to be assaulted at school. While non-LGBT youths struggle most with school classes, exams, and work, their LGBT peers say the biggest problem they face is unaccepting families. Events like the Day of Silence helps to give a voice to those who have not yet found their own. You may ask yourself what this has to do with scouting. Thats a very fair question. Scouting is the only place where a bunch of kids can get together and have fun and be kids in a safe environment. We gather once a week and teach scouts how to surpass difference or obstacles as a team and reach a goal. “The spirit is there in every boy; it has to be discovered and brought to light.” ~Lord Baden Powell
