Hello all I hope this message finds you well, This Sunday we will be looking at 1 John 4:7-21 or “God is Love”. We will be looking at these verses through the lens of worship, as that has been the theme of the last month. You will notice that in this text the word propitiation is mentioned. Sometimes when we get into these theological terms we can get lost or the meaning behind the text can gets skewed, so here’s a brief definition of the word propitiation Propitiation as defined by 1828 Webster dictionary PROPITIATION, n. propisiashon. 1. The act of appeasing wrath and conciliating the favor of an offended person; the act of making propitious. 2. In theology, the atonement or atoning sacrifice offered to God to assuage his wrath and render him propitious to sinners. Christ is the propitiation for the sins of men. Rom.3. 1 John 2. Sometimes we can get bogged down in theological terms, and we have a tendency to gloss right over them. For example propitiation, expiation, justification, sanctification & imputation.
