Gilbert’s Discovery Village (If you are a new volunteer at the Gilbert House, let me know and I will send you the New Volunteer form) Visitor Experience Volunteer- When: Monday, March 24th - Friday, March 28th Drop by to give the Visitor Experience Associate a hand! Help with resetting and disinfecting exhibits, crowd control, weekly scheduled activities (T/TH 1:00-2:00) and more! Add the time you are available to volunteer to the schedule in the time box. Camp- The volunteer structure for camp looks a little different than from in the past. We are asking that you sign up for the duration of the camp- which includes the whole day (8:45-4:30) for 2 days. This offers consistency for both the teachers and the campers. You will be given 2-10 minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch. We have 4 camps this March. Click on the link for specific dates and times. Below are the descriptions: 3/25/14-3/26/14 : Stick to Joystick: The Archaeology of Toys Travel back in time with Alfred Carlton Gilbert as we explore the evolution of play. Join in our hunter-gather games, make handmade pioneer toys on the frontier, experience the toys from your parents’ childhood, and design the toys of the future. 3/25/14-3/26/14 : Superhero Science Discover the science behind your favorite superpowers. Budding superheroes will learn the secrets of immortality, flight, invisibility, and more 3/27/14-3/28/14: Mini-Maker Camp Grab some recycled materials and unleash your imagination. We will be creating buttons from LED lights, making bristol-bots from toothbrushes and exploring how playdough can conduct electricity. 3/27/14-3/28/14: Eco-Camp Spring is the perfect time to get outdoors. Join us on a nature hike along the river, play in the village garden and make wildflower seed bombs to take home. No experience is necessary, we need volunteers to help time, run events, etc. Anyone that might be interested please contact me. We are looking at 3 home meets this year: April 9th, April 16th & April 30th! Les Schwab Car Wash 4Him2Day, an organization that raises funds for families that dealing with pediatric cancer, is hosting a car wash fundraiser and needs volunteers. It will take place on April 26th, at Les Schwab. (MORE INFO TO COME) Capital City Half Marathon When: April 27th, Sunday 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Where: Capital FC Soccer Complex at 5201 State Street Salem, OR 97317 What: Setting up water stations and handing out water to runners (There will be about three water stations). Pointing out runners in the correct direction at intersections on the course. Also, volunteers will be needed to help out at the “Mini Soccer Academy” for the children of runners. VOLUNTEERS: 1.
