Hello all. I’m very happy to be working with you all, and am looking forward to meeting you in a couple short weeks. Hopefully you’ve been made aware of the edited version of the script that we will be using. We like to work up on our feet without cumbersome scripts in hands, so the sooner we can achieve that the better. There’s only so much one can do with the tops of heads. Please keep an open mind going in to the rehearsal process, as Nathalie and I are always looking for creative ways to bring Shakespeare’s plays to life, and we will be asking you to stretch your imagination and playful spirit in rehearsals and in the interpretation of the text. Our productions are fast-paced, inventive, and very atmospheric, thanks in large part to music. Music has been a key feature of all our productions, with musicians inhabiting roles and being on stage for the bulk of the show to enliven the atmosphere and imbue scenes with tone, mood, and humour. We like to take as much advantage as possible of our cast’s strengths in order to create a lively and original production. To this end, I would like to ask any of you who have any special skills or training, musical or otherwise, to make these abilities known. Also, if anyone has links to musicians –particularly who play horns or percussion– who have a good dramatic sense and would be comfortable on stage, please do get in touch, as we are trying to finish putting the team together.
