Hello all, and congratulations Stant! For those that don’t - TopicsExpress

Hello all, and congratulations Stant! For those that don’t know us we are Michael Tinker Pearce and Linda Pearce, authors of ‘Diaries of a Dwarven Rifleman’ and our latest novel, ‘Rage of Angels.’ We’ve also written two of the Side-Quest novellas from the Foreworld Series published by 47North, ‘The Shield Maiden,’ and ‘Tyr’s Hammer.’ Among those stories listed we run the gamut from Historic to Heroic Fantasy and on to Science Fiction. We’re versatile. All of our worlds are alien in a sense; the world of the past, where people’s perceptions, beliefs and lives render our familiar world alien. In ‘Diaries of a Dwarven Rifleman’ we had to imagine an entire alien world. It very much resembles ours in ecology, but we have to reckon with the effects of it being inhabited by five different ‘human’ races… and the fact that the protagonist have lifespans that stretch for centuries. How does that fact shape their culture, attitudes and civilization? Again, it’s a familiar world rendered alien by it’s inhabitants. In ‘Rage of Angels’ the aliens come here and render our own world an alien environment almost overnight. In all of these cases it is the people and their actions, attitudes and world-view that render the world alien. But what about an actual alien planet, a world orbiting another star? That’s a whole other kettle of fish, and we’re at a uniquely interesting time in history to examine the question. Why? Because this very year we will be launching an IR observation satellite that will not only enable us to discover smaller planets that we ever have before; we will be able to directly observe those planets for the first time. Not in detail, but we will probably be able to determine if they are capable of supporting terrestrial life… and maybe even if they do harbor life. The second thing is that in several laboratories around the world scientists are warping space-time and measuring those warps with the goal of developing a faster-than-light space drive. Details are sparse but apparently it’s going well. Interstellar travel may become a reality within our lifetimes. It’s a seriously cool time to be a science-fiction writer. What will we find when we first step onto aliens worlds? I am guessing that we will find that life is the rule rather than the exception. Earth houses any number of alien worlds as strange as anything we can imagine. I expect we are going to find the familiar… and the deeply strange. Whatever we find the only certainty is that there will be surprises. We will be giving away a free Kindle edition of ‘Rage of Angels’ to one of the folks that post a question of comment below. (.pdf is available if you prefer.) So… ask us about, uh, whatever. I’m very opinionated. amazon/dp/B00KEC2HCI
