Hello birder, for today lets get to know a family of bird known as Kingfishers. The most prominent feature of this family is a relatively large bill in comparison to the head. Like its name, most of the members of this family hunt for the fish but some also hunt for insects and small reptile. Luckily, we have one kingfishers, White Throated Kingfisher also known as Burung Raja Udang (King of Srimp Bird) which can be found easily in most urban area. It loud cackling can be heard as background sound in most garden and parks. It is unmistakably brown head, blue upperpart, white throat and brown belly make it easy to be identified. Below is other members of kingfishers that can be found in mangrove like Collared and Black Capped Kingfisher and jungle like Rufous Collared and Banded Kingfisher and for the case of Brown Winged Kingfisher, it can only be found on the Island of Langkawi and probably in other 99 islands around it. Now venture out to your garden and try to spot this King of Fish or Shrimp or if you feel adventurous, you can trek into mangrove or jungle to look for the rare kingfishers. Happy birding :)
