Hello everybody, My husband and I are in the process of setting - TopicsExpress

Hello everybody, My husband and I are in the process of setting up a resource centre for children in Flexi learning or Home Education. We are parents to a 10 year old Son Alex who has complex medical needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder, leaning towards Aspergers and is highly intelligent, which means , he doesnt fit anywhere. After, hospitals, special schools and a full statement and Mainstream Primary, we have now reached a point where he can only manage three mornings in school and is flexi schooled, so he has a chance of finding some balance. Our daughter Caitlin is 8 and has just started Home Ed. After several years of not managing to go to school full time and a lot of tears and anxiety. She is a born artist and learns through drawing. Living with her brother has been tough on here and our family balance has improved grately since the children are less stressed. She went through the year 3 curriculum in a month and has now started the year 4 curriculum which she is tackling with great vigour. Since her anxiety has gone, she has enough energy to do great work and she does about 4x the amount of work per day than is set by school. She studies Dutch and French on top of the curriculum and has great flair for cooking and baking. She is now a very active child that takes drum lessons and goes to theatre school on Saturdays where she follows Singing and Acting. With the right help, our children are thriving and becoming more independent people every day, My husband comes from a management background and I am a Social Worker/Teacher/Systems Therapist with some Chinese Medicine, Energetic Healing, NLP and Reiki thrown in for good measure. My interest and personal pursuits ly in the fields of cooking for gluten/lactose intolerance, vegan and vegetarian and I love using everything in the fridge. I hate throwing food away. I run Workshops in Intuitive Writing and Intuitive Drawing and consider myself a writer and poet. I wrote my Master thesis on Co-operation between Service Providers and this new project may well become my PHD study. I have great hope for the future. What makes me so hopeful is that I meet people everyday, people just like you and me, that have amazing vision and resources within them and if we can create a place where we can bring those together and harness them we will be able to give opportunities to children that just arent there when we are all divided and are doing our own thing and finding our own way. If we can put our heads and resources and knowledge together, we will be able to create a new way forward. We are doing all the preliminary work at the moment and hope to have the centre up and running for September 2014.
