Hello everyone! Happy Teddy Bear Day! Teddy bears have been part of an important project of mine over the last few years. This project is called Teddy Bear Hospital (TBH). TBH is a free community child education project run mainly by medical students for school aged children all over the world. Children bring their “sick” teddies to see the teddy doctors (medical students). The teddy doctors and children help to make the teddies better by doing plaster casts, x-rays, listening to their hearts with stethoscopes and more. We also run healthy eating, hand washing, teeth hygiene, sun protection, and exercise stations to promote a healthy lifestyle. The aim of TBH is to reduce child anxiety of doctors and hospitals and to promote a healthy lifestyle in a fun environment. It also helps medical students to practice their communication skills with children. Having worked with the TBH at the University of Cambridge at Addenbrookes Hospital for several years, I am working to create a national TBH with the support of Medsin.
