Here are the #IronFX Main Points for Today: • US economic news mixed again; #dollar generally higher – US housing start soft in Dec after big jump in Nov; building permits also lower – Industrial production in line with expectations (up but up by less than in Nov) – U of Michigan consumer sentiment survey also lower – BUT JOLTS report (Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey) showed 4.0mn job openings, up 70k on the month and highest since 3/2008 = labor market improving • US #stocks lower, bond yields lower on disappointing earnings • Nonetheless USD higher against all but JPY, NOK and GBP – #EURUSD hits 2014 low: investors hesitant to chase rally in European assets – #USDCAD approaches 1.10 as market builds in a risk premium ahead of BoC meeting – NZD weak, falls further on Wellington earthquake – AUD up a bit on better-than-expected Chinese #GDP, but still weak – GBP rallies further on Friday’s amazing UK retail sales data • Today: German PPI for Dec expected unch.
