Hello everyone I’m Carmen Hernandez and I would like to be the next alderman of the 38th Ward, our family lived in this ward for the past 32 years, my wife and I have raised our six kids here, five boys and one girl, I have worked for the City of Chicago Dept. of Water Management for the past 21 years, my wife is a bank teller, two of them are Chicago Police Officers, one is a Union Carpenter, two have part-time jobs and go the College, my daughter is in high school. I served in the Illinois National Guard from 1976-1984, because of the events that took place on Sept.11, 2001 I re-enlisted in the Military at the age of 45 years old, in 2003 I was deployed to Iraq with the 933rd MP.Co we spent 16 months in country, it was a great honor to serve with the young Soldiers of my unit, the whole deployment was a about 20months long. Then in 2009 my son Nathan was deployed to Afghanistan, with the 178th Inf. My youngest son Leon is in an Aviation Company. Let’s be honest, running for public office isn’t going be easy I don’t have any money or any big spending friends, it’s going to be long hours and a lot of work, I still have to work full time and fulfill my Military duties, but it’s a sacrifice, we need more regular people like you and me to answer the call for public service, it’s the only way to really make the necessary changes that we can believe in, If I can leave my wife and six kids for almost 20 months to answer the call from our Country in time of War, the least you can do is VOTE!
