Hello everyone. Long time since Michael or I posted, but here goes - TopicsExpress

Hello everyone. Long time since Michael or I posted, but here goes with the latest. Things are still progressing with our engine install, just slowly. Work commitments usually only allow weekends to work on the car, and as expected, some things as well have been trial and error; and/ or discovering need to replace this or that, or simply retain something. Anyway, most of the shown photos below show our engine install with additional dress-up since last time we posted. Things are moving along as said. We are in the process of receiving some Engine electrical harnesses through Rock Auto, & which they had to source out from their various suppliers in US. Of fuel injector fuel lines, these have proven more difficult to get new replacement ones for, so are retaining most of these from original engine (and after cleaning them). Owing to a worn effect on about 4 of them rubbing against each other over the course of time , causing significant steel deterioration, we have learnt we can obtain new ones for these, via Heath diesel (I think for about $49 ea). Most US suppliers we have found, tend to sell reconditioned ones for about half of this price. For the moment, we are using our old outlet manifolds from the old engine, which after a good cleaning and repaint to match the new engine, look quite good. Of interest to Craig, or anyone else interested in the P400, although we had great ideas of trying to accommodate the larger oil sump which more suits the Humvee, we are discovering that this might prove a much harder task. One of course has to try things out/ explore all options, and of course, we were aware when we bought this engine, that the sump in its present form would not suit. In a nutshell, and as one of the photos will show (one showing front diff, with a broom handle lying across it!), the new sump is about only 3 inches, if that, too long, conflicting with the diff as is. A local boat builder/welder who works extensively with steel and aluminium products will cut our sump down, and rejoin to the reqd level, needed for our sump to fit our vehicle, for about $50. Other options we looked at, just proved too expensive, and or too difficult in the end. We will provide better photos of what we need to cut etc, and of altered sump, when these pics of course become available. (As I said to Michael, surely it would have been just so much easier for everyone had AM General just made a sump that could have sufficed for all the Humvee, and suburbans with IFS. The difference in size being that marginal, in other words!) I have also included a pic of our new intercooler, as previously referred. One of the pics shows it alongside our old suburban radiator. Yes, it is much smaller, but this prototype was used in a suburban duramax conversion (not long ago, I mentioned about a chap in W. Aust.- this in fact was South Aust. and Michael ended up speaking to him recently; that overall task proving also hard, but of interest, the intercooler as shown in our pics, was made to suit size wise, the suburban, but still suiting the cooling needs demanded from a duramax 6.6). This is an ARE intercooler are.au/, which we got through PID - piddiesel/ because they were able to access one faster for us, being a regular customer of ARE, than if we had gone direct etc. This intercooler measures 370mm (high) x 75mm (thick) x 760mm (wide). It weighs 11.5 kg, and although aluminium, is heavier than I expected, I think owing to the intricacy of the inner core. It will be placed directly behind the front grill of our suburban, in front of our various stock reqd radiators and coolers etc. Michael is envisaging installing stainless steel pipes from this intercooler, extending to turbo; and from turbo. At this stage, we are hoping to get a replacement radiator from Griffin in the US. Ill post some more a little later, but thought this might be a good start. Have also today recd a publication from Diesel Place, which goes into the P400 install. We are looking forward to reading this, and will post anything of interest that might be beneficial to others. We also have found a nice chap in the US who works for AM General and is putting this engine into his vehicle. Always good to speak to others doing same, for their insights etc. Cheers everyone!
