Hello everyone. My name is Katy and Im 28 on the 28th of this month. I have a husband Terry (36), and two daughters Ryleigh (4.5) and Raegan (18 mths). I was diagnosed with stage 2 squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue on October 31, 2013. I had a right partial glossectomy and fill right neck dissection to remove 28 nodes on November 7, 2013. We had negative margins and all nodes were clear. I went back to work on January 8, 2014. Everything was going great. I noticed a place towards the back right on my tongue that was swelling a few days before I went back to work. I had a cold so I thought maybe it was irritated from coughing so much. Around the 17 of January it still wasnt better and was getting more painful, do I called out from work and went to the doctor. I was given the awful news, it was cancer again. Still stage 2 SCC. I had surgery again on January 23; this time it crossed the midline but missed my right artery by 1mm. Negative margins, but just barely. I was told chemo wouldnt be necessary, but six weeks of radiation would. I started radiation on March 10 and I go Monday through Friday. I have ten treatments remaining! Treatment #21 starts tomorrow. I had a PEG tube placed a week and half ago because I lost five lbs in two days. Its helped me quite a bit and Im still able to swallow water but midst everything else feels like shards of glass going down. Anyhow, theres my story. Feel free to ask questions. I have an amazing support system and Id love to do the same for anyone who needs it!
