Hello everyone, Sundays weather is shaping up to become a significant severe weather producer, but perhaps not for Middle TN. A potent low pressure system will develop overnight and move towards the Great Lakes on Sunday. Showers and storms will be on-going during the daybreak hours through early afternoon across Middle TN. However, there should be a break after this precipitation as the cold front approaches from the west during the afternoon and evening hours. Gradient winds will increase to 20-30mph with higher gusts, and a wind advisory may be needed as a result. Then, strong to severe storms are expected to develop along the cold front from the low pressure center (northern IL) on down to the south. The amount of rain and cloud cover during the day could limit the develop of severe storms for our region (thus, the reason we are placed in a Slight Risk for severe weather from the Storm Prediction Center). Well have to monitor that closely Sunday. At this time though, we could see a decent enough break for storms to develop along the cold front, affecting Middle TN after 4pm Sunday around the TN river, and through roughly 10pm-midnight towards the Plateau. Should severe storms develop, damaging straight line winds will be the overwhelming threat, though isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Please see the attached powerpoint for more details. At this time, no conference call is scheduled since the instability is still very much in question. Should the forecast deteriorate, a briefing may be needed midday-early afternoon Sunday. Thanks - if you have any questions, dont hesitate to ask. Angie Lese Science and Operations Officer NWS Nashville
