Hello everyone, This article of mine will be focusing on the hip injuries. Hip and pelvis injuries make up a very small percentage in athletes which usually are due to overuse or over training. Most of the physical fitness activities such as running, cycling and jumping to name a few, constantly put Hip into flexion, extension and rotations (more of hip flexion than other ). Studies suggest women and elderly population are more prone to hip injuries. Nevertheless this does not rule men. With certain set population such as, the elderly people who are use to sitting for long hours and being immobile, the hip joint is constantly into flexion leading to tightness or stiffness as they commonly complain. This stiffness or tightness is one of the reasons for the hip injuries. Due to its anatomy, both of the hip joints give a lot of stability as it needs to carry ones body weight. Hence it feels more stable than mobile. Hence more prone to fractures than dislocations. Hip pain during training is an indication of various problems. It could be related to fractures, muscle or ligaments tears or bursitis and so on. An recurrent hip pain needs to be address and an investigation is advice. Hip and pelvis are surrounded and are an important point of attachment for various major muscle groups and other soft tissues such as ligaments. Some muscles are prone to weak whilst others prone to tight. This leads to an imbalance. A balance of strengthening work and freedom of movement is important. A regular Gym based workout for strengthening and Yoga poses to open up hip and pelvic area work very well to balance the hip and pelvis. The classical Yoga poses on a regular practice are one of the things to avoid hip injuries due to tightness. Hope you have enjoyed reading this article.
