Hello everyone! With freshers week over a new year at university is upon us and with it comes the amazing weekend that is Freshers Weekend. This is the first club weekend away, where a large group of current club members and many psyched freshers go away to Wales for an adventure packed weekend. When? From the 10th to the 12th of october. We leave at 5pm on Friday evening and return late Sunday. Where? We are lodged in Erics bunkhouse, a famous Welsh hut, which is ideally situated, close to amazing single and multi pitch climbing as well as some fantastic walking. Its a great way for all the new club members to meet current members and get a feel for what were all about. All levels of experience are welcome. We get everyone out climbing at least one day and offer walking and scrambling on both days. For those of you who arent familiar with scrambling it is a fantastic sport that combines rock climbing and walking. We provide transport, accomodation and food for the weekend. How to sign up? Sign up will take place at monday meetings, wednesday pub (come find me at any club event) and by e-mailing usmc.secretary@gmail. Sign up will end on the 6th of october, so make sure you sign up quickly as spaces fill up fast and you wouldnt want to miss out. To sign up, please provide the following information (email me at usmc.secretary@gmail): - Full name - Registration number (found on your ucard) - Phone number - If you are bringing a car and how many spaces you will have - Dietary/Medical needs (These will remain confidential) - If you would like to climb or not - If you need a harness and helmet off the club How to Pay? The weekend costs 45£. All payments are to be made to our treasurer David Robinette, he will be present at all club events in the next two weeks. If you need to arrange an alternative payment meeting please e-mail him directly at usmc.treasurer1@gmail. The deadline for paying is the same as for signing up (i.e. the 6th of october). What do I need to bring? A kit list will be sent out next weekend, when registration finishes. Our local climbing shop cragX will be holding a discount day (20% off) for club members on the 8th, this would be a great time to acquire some shiny new mountain gear at great prices! You will be needing boots, warm and waterproof clothes, a sleeping bag and a mat. Please Note that all people attending the weekend need to be club members. You can join the club on the sport sheffield website (goodwinonline.co.uk/). We will be sending out extended instructions about this in the next week, however you should be able to do it fairly easily.
