Hello fellow Asian SPTs! Greetings! :) I am Krysta Perez, the newly elected president of APTSA. :) Last August 2 and 3, about 226 SPTs from six different countries (Hongkong, Japan, Myanmar, Taiwan, Thailand and Philippines) attended and actively participated our 5th APTSA Congress with the theme “Playing Together Means Learning Together. We had discussions and seminars from distinguished Physical Therapy educators, and workshops facilitated by PT students from Thailand. Participating countries presented about the role of PTs in their country’s Disaster Management and Successful Aging in their respective countries. We also shared experiences and learned from each other, not only about Physical Therapy but also our respective countries and life in general as well. We also had a lot of fun dancing, partying, meeting new friends and getting to know them and their cultures more. This Congress was such a good opportunity for all of us, and not just because we had such fruitful lectures, seminars, and workshops. This opportunity presented to us a chance to see and feel how it is to be an SPT in other countries in Asia; how they are seen, how they study and practice, how they are treated, etc. - an avenue that APTSA should definitely provide; something we would be remembering as we go back to our respective countries and continue our education. More importantly, this Congress gave us the chance to forge bonds with the people going through the same things as us SPTs- fellow SPTs across Asia; stories of culture, academics, and personal life were among the few things we got to bring home with us, things that would be forever etched in our lives. And of course, we can’t forget the start of lifelong friendships and partnerships we have started in this Congress. :) Thank you, Thailand, for being such warm and wonderful hosts for this year’s Congress. :) Ever since its birth, APTSA has been working on fulfilling its mission of promoting regional cooperations and interactions amongst SPTs in Asia especially through our congresses.
