Hello friends!! This video follows along with the question I posed yesterday. When justifying the reasons why we cannot live the life we have imagined, I respectfully call BS on what Mr Freeman has to say. Let me explain The premise of the video is to say that race (in America) does not affect the ability to gain wealth. Again I call BS. To say that race cannot be a seriously contributing factor in gaining wealth and position in the American society is frankly naive. When we look at the factors of how people gain wealth and position, to say that the people who have ownership of the land, most big businesses, the political positioning, and the best our education system has to offer do not have a serious leg up is just plain wrong and self-serving. The most important thing that comes with these advantages is a mindset that says anything is possible for me, in my opinion. When you grow up in dilapidated surroundings, everyone you know is on government assistance, wearing hand-me-down clothes, your school and home environment are war zones, and your role models are all speaking of how they cannot achieve and why, the possibilities that seem achievable tend to be very limited. This is a matter of culture and atleast in America, it tends to frequently be separated by race. Now, after watching the whole interview, Mr Freeman makes several points that I believe explain his position far better than this one small portion. It is the belief system, the mindset, and the access to resources that are large contributing factors. He likens the belief system to religion which I think is a dead-on comparison. So, to wrap this up, race can and does play a part in gaining wealth and position in America. Is it the prime deciding factor? NO. Can ANYONE raise themselves above their station of birth? YES. But to say that it is not a contributing factor only serves to make those who are in power feel better about not reaching to help others rise and realize the best that is within them. In the end, it serves as a dis-service to our whole society as much of what could be achieved, will never be achieved, because those who have access to less will never believe that it is possible for them. The answer is empowerment that spans across all races and stations in life. Coming together in a brotherhood that goes deeper than the color of someones skin or the amount of wealth their family has, will serve to bring our society to heights we have never before achieved. Anything that contributes to a person believing that others are capable of more than they are is a poison that we as a society need to dispose of, and race has historically certainly been a contributing factor. Feel free to share your thoughts! Be Blessed and a Blessing my friends!!
