Hello friends~ When you have a moment please read this letter that I am posting from my friend Barbara Tsairis. I will let her do the talking... Dear friends, Its that time of year again. . . I am selling raffle tickets to benefit World Class -- an organization I founded with a college friend in 2006 to reaffirm our activist (60s) roots and to honor our classmates and contemporaries who never returned from Vietnam. The mission of World Class is to provide access to clean water and sanitation for some of the poorest of the poor on our planet -- the people of the communities that comprise greater Amasaman, Ghana. We are a ‘no frills’ operation -- in the US, no office, no salaries, no fancy publications -- and in Ghana, only one employee. On a very shoestring budget, we’ve drilled 4 wells in three communities and constructed 2 latrine facilities. Over the years, weve witnessed firsthand the results of our efforts – among other things, children no longer drinking from polluted streams and young girls going to school instead of hauling water for their families. One of our two annual fundraisers is a summer raffle -- proceeds this year will go toward completing a new latrine in the town of Sapeiman, where it is sorely needed. You may have recently read the hideous story of the two young Indian women who were gang raped and hanged by their headscarves as a result of having to get up in the dark and walk into the bush in order to defecate in private -- a degradation suffered by many of the 2.5 billion people who do not have access to a toilet.
