Hello half-marathon participants! The Steamworks Half Marathon - TopicsExpress

Hello half-marathon participants! The Steamworks Half Marathon is about 10 days away, so here are some details about the race that you may find helpful. If you have any questions, let me know. We look forward to seeing you on June 7th! Need to Withdraw? Please let us know if you decide you cant join us for the race. There may still be someone on the wait list who wants to run, even with just a few days notice. Volunteers Needed: If you have family or friends who are coming to cheer for you, we would love to put them to work. In exchange, well give them a race shirt, food, and beer at the post-race party. We need a few folks for aid stations and finish line help. E-mail me if interested. Bathrooms: The Durango Sports Club bathrooms will be available prior to boarding the buses on race morning. Portable toilets are provided at the start line (Bakers Bridge). There will be two portable toilets on the course, in the vicinity of mile 5 and mile 9. Race Course: The course is well marked and easy to follow. You will stay on County Road 250 until the last quarter-mile of the race. From there you will have course marshals directing you to the finish line at the Sports Club parking lot. Aid Stations: There will be aid stations every two miles. Each will have water, Powerade, first aid, cell phones for emergencies, and volunteers to cheer you on. The station at mile six will have bananas and oranges. Traffic: The race is run on public roads and is open to two-way vehicular traffic. Be alert for traffic at all times, even though traffic is relatively light on this road. Follow the orange cones on the left side of the road, against the direction of traffic. Please do not run the tangents as the course has blind hills and corners. Obey course marshals at all times. Be alert for hazards on the course such as vehicles, bicycles, potholes, and debris. Weather: Weather can be unpredictable in Colorado; please monitor the weather, dress appropriately, and drink lots of fluids prior to race day. Current forecast for race day is sunny and a high of 79 degrees. The temperature at the start should be in the mid-50s. Drop Bags: You may bring a drop bag to the start line. Mark your bag with your name or bib number. We will have markers available for you. Drop bags will be transported back from the start to the finish line. Look for your bag in the runner recovery zone. Please do not put valuable items in your drop-bag, as we do not guard them. Race Timing: The race is professionally timed. Please make sure your bib number is visible on the front of your shirt when you cross the finish line. Use of the Sports Club: Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Durango Sports Club, runners have complete use of the club for post-race showers, soaking, swimming, etc. Post-Race Party: Our title sponsor, Steamworks Brewing Company, invites you to attend the post-race party around the pool at the club. Runners receive free food and beer. Family and friends are welcome at the party, and may enjoy the BBQ for $10 per person. The awards ceremony begins at 11am. Awards: All finishers receive a commemorative Steamworks pint glass and a finisher’s medal. Prizes will be awarded to overall male and female winners, and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place runner in each age category.
