Hello, lovely supporters! It’s very likely (although, as with all media, not guaranteed) that a major story featuring Camp Quality will be on tonight’s national ABC 7.30 program. The story is about Georgia Lowry, 20. Georgia was the youngest cancer patient in Australia to have a bone marrow transplant at 6 months old. When she relapsed a few years later, her mum was told to say goodbye...Mum begged for anything that could prolong her life by just a few weeks so they could take Georgia on one last holiday. Georgia was put on steroids. Miraculously, she started to improve. Then they tried something never before done in Australia: a second bone marrow transplant. Georgia is one of a tiny worldwide number of survivors of two bone marrow transplants. But her body was nuked. Her hair will never grow normally. Her growth is stunted to that of a child. The day before we met her she had extensive tooth surgery; she still has her baby ones. Despite this, Georgia was resolute on volunteering at our camp to be a companion to a young girl recently diagnosed with cancer (Meg, pictured). The film crew were there to capture Georgia giving back to the charity she credits with getting her through such an intense childhood. Tune in tonight with fingers x’d!
