Hello, my family is moving to Portland from Chicago. We just made an offer on a home in montavilla. From my initial research the neighborhood seemed like a nice up & coming area where we could afford a bigger home but still be close to downtown. Even though vestal doesnt get high rankings on the school ratings charts, it seemed to have a strong PTA with parents trying to make a difference. I was also hoping for a strong sense of community in my new neighborhood. However Ive come to this site and see postings about vandalism and meth heads. Is this not a good area to raise a family? I dont want to make a mistake with my family by bringing my kids to a place not conducive to a happy, safe childhood. Thoughts?
