Hello my friends, Wanted to give you all an update while I have - TopicsExpress

Hello my friends, Wanted to give you all an update while I have the chance. I am home and thank you for all of your prayers and good wishes. The surgery yesterday was actually a start and go thing because the were no expecting what they found. They went into the left arm with a cath to monitor several things at once and then ran the wire from there to my right groin almost to where the Femoral artery makes the transition from groin to leg. At that point they were still seeing what they expected when they found a narrowing in the artery. They sent a stent in that was approximately 1 1/4 inches long. I really do think that stent may have been the longest I have out of the total of 40 that I have collected. I have a double bypass in my heart along with 34 stents, then there were 5 other stents not in the heart and the one I got yesterday made a total of 40. When they inflated the stent it went as it was supposed to. It was at this point that they ran into the unexpected. They already knew they were going to have some blockage and narrowings to deal with but after getting the stent placed they ran the dye into my leg for the first time. It went all the way to my foot which is good but it went via viens rather than arteries. The attempted 5 more dye releases but received the same results. They took a lot of pictures with the dye in and not then finished things up. After getting out of recovery and being moved back to my room the doctors came in and explained what they had found although having been looking at the monitor while they were doing it all, I was at least up to speed on what they found. They have scheduled me for the main surgery next Friday the 14th and I am told there will be 3 surgeons working in unison, one on the thigh, one on the calf, and one on the foot, and what they intend on doing is bypassing the entire femoral artery and attatching the bypass artery to the vien system of the leg and giving me back the flow that is supposed to be there. They moved it up because of the urgency of getting it done but they need a week to get it planned and put together. Thats the update folks, and I am told it will be a fairly slow recovery which will all be done in the hospital.
