Hello my name is David Nipple. For those that dont know me and come across my page. Here is the moment my life changed drastically. On May 4, 2014 around 8:30 PM I was just about a mile from my place coming back home from a day ride on my motorcycle. Looking forward to seeing my cats and taking a hot shower. I was eastbound on US Hwy 412 or Bear Creek Pike in Columbia, TN. I noticed the traffic in the westbound lane was coming to a stop so I checked my mirrors to see what was going on and if everything was good. Everything looked good behind me and had no cars following me to close which was a relief especially at night and it being so dark. When I brought my eyes back up from the glance into the mirrors I was blinded. At first reaction I closed my eyes and the next my brain went into being puzzled. I guess because at first I was like lights, what are lights doing in my lane. Oh my God they are headlights. I need to do something so I decided in that brief instant to move off toward the right hand side or shoulder of the road. I tried to get away but I wasnt quick enough and the driver who was drunk and had crossed the centerline came on me too quick. I was running somewhere around 55-60 MPH at the time and I except the SUV that hit me was running from 35-45 MPH. He hit me on the left side and I was knocked back over 30 feet. I remember the hit and I will have to say I hope no one ever goes through that. It was brutal thats all I got to say about that. I remember being on the ground on my back and bringing my right hand up to place underneath my knee area of my left leg and looking at it and seeing about 2 inches of bone sticking out. I started to rock back and forth on my back and crying out oh my leg, oh my leg. At short time later while still doing that I brought my left hand up to where I could see it from the corner of my eye and saw about an inch of bone sticking out of it near the wrist. So I lowered my hand back to where it was laying as gently as I could. I continued rocking and cradling my leg until someone came up behind me and told me I got you help is on the way. I must of passed out for a moment because the next thing I know I was in the back of an ambulance. I remember someone strapping and tighten a tourniquet on my leg and saying the left leg is to mangled to be saved. Someone also said I would have to be lifeflighted out. I remember Officer Jennifer Dalton telling me who she was and telling me to take my right hand and to hold hers and squeeze if I had too. I told her I was worried about my cats cause no one would be there for them and my neighbor didnt have my keys and I also mentioned that my family was 10-12 hours away. After that I dont remember much I heard the sound of the helicopter and thats it until I woke up Wednesday. So please if you take anything away from my story is that PLEASE DONT DRIVE DRUNK. My life has been forever changed because of a drunk driver. Thankful Im still here. Thanks.
