Hello, my name is Katy. Im from a town just outside of Vancouver, B.C. While in many ways a short auto-biography is an inadequate indicator of who I am, I have loved reading everyone elses and thus determined it is a good place to start before I have the pleasure of meeting everyone in person. I am a philosophy enthusiast, avid reader, history nerd (Edwardian History is my current obsession, although really I love it all), with a passion for politics and community design. Marveling at the mysteries of the universe is one of my favorite pastimes and I often dabble in theoretical physics, neuroscience and astronomy. I also dance (mostly ballet) quite intensively. I am a lover of all art forms and derive great enjoyment from the expression of intellectual concepts through, drawing, acting, choreography, and writing. I am almost finished my first novel, am working on several screenplays, and love poetry/short stories. My favorite authors include but are not limited to: Lucy Maud Montgomery, Leo Tolstoy, and C.S. Lewis. I also have a dictionary collection which has expanded itself into a reference book collection of 70+ books. When I am not dancing you will most often find me curled up in my library with a cup of tea or out camping (I love kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and star gazing). My favorite musicians are Beethoven, Bach, Brahms (and nearly all classical music although I do harbor an unjustified intolerance for Mozart), all Musical Theater soundtracks (nearly), Regina Spektor, Athlete, The Civil Wars, and other Mumford genre music. My favorite TV. Shows (besides the news and you-tube (vlogbrothers anyone?)) are, in no particular order: Doctor Who, Sherlock, Downton Abbey, Star Trek, and Eureka. I am a Christian. Ive put a lot of objective thought into my beliefs and would love to talk with anybody whos interested but mostly I want to love others as I love myself and as God has first loved me. I realize thus far I have mostly told you about my likes and dislikes. Which while proportionate indicators of my personality (which is intp for anyone interested in MBTI) are far from in any way describing me. So I will leave you with a short anecdote which I used to introduce myself for a book club. As I am a minor detail - I will not describe the idiosyncrasies of me. I would rather focus on the commonalities of all humanity, letting you discover me through what I write, what I read, and how I think. I am a mass of organelles held together by plasma membranes...a million cells...each individual entity a puppet upon the stage - each cell playing a part in the complexity of myself. I - the qualia* - stand above; tugging at strings of casual correlation; commanding each puppet to dance. Until one day like the flowers of the field they will fade. We are born - and we will die.
