Hello, my name is Kolby. I came into the care of BARS in mid 2012 . Previous to my time at BARS, I had been staying at an Alberta pound for a significant amount of time. I would see the other dogs at the pound come and go – some claimed by their owners, while others were adopted to new families however, I knew no one was coming for me as my former owner did not want me anymore. There were a few people interested in adopting me however, none of them seemed to be my perfect match. The staff where I was staying were all very good to me. They let me out for extra time in the yard, made sure I got lots of pets and treats and I became quite bonded with many of them however, they knew that life at the pound was no life for an amazing dog by me. They searched far and wide for a new home for me and I was eventually transferred to the care of BARS. I have been fortunate enough to reside in the same foster time for most of my time with the rescue. I bonded well with some of the other dogs in my foster home, especially with my good ol’ pal Chewy however, his time came and he was adopted to Hollywood! I was very happy for him but as time went on, other dogs came and went too… and while I was happy for their happy endings, I couldn’t help but wonder where MY forever home was? There were families who were interested in me, but none that were my perfect match. My foster dad kept telling me that “good things come for those who wait” however, it seemed as though I had been waiting all my life. In June 2014, things changed. My foster dad told me that he had received an email from a nice lady named Deanne. He told me Deanne wanted to meet me and maybe, just maybe, she was the one! My meeting with my potential new home went well. Deanne took me home with her to foster me and I got to know some new dogs and people! We also started going to see another nice lady named Leah at Waggytails so that Deanne and I could continue to get to know one another and grow our relationship. Deanne is very good to me! She has bought me my very own big fluffy bed however, I prefer to sleep on hers and she says that’s ok! We go on lots of walks and she takes me many places with her. She also takes me to the pet store and lets me pick out my own toys – of course I always pick the squeaky ones! Well, as of today, let me re-introduce myself…. My name is Kolby and I am ADOPTED!
