Hello once again peeps ! Ive been quiet & away for most of January thus no film last month... But were back this month with a film that is bold, bizarre and utterly baffling.... It is a film that I have been thinking of putting on the film night for a while, one that when I watched it at the cinema few years back, stayed with me for weeks & had me thinking.... Now unfortunately, in more than any previous occasion, seems only appropriate to pay tribute to one of the best actors of any era, that has sadly been found dead in New York City last week. Philip Seymour Hoffman had a versatility and brilliance that, as the great critic Roger Ebert suggested, if any actor was ever needed to portray him, it would be Philip Seymour Hoffman. None of us knew him but weve all felt moved or provoked or wowed in general by his performances, and the wide swath of people reacting to his death speaks to his versatility and depth of talent. I tried to think of a favourite performance of his and it was impossible. They were all daring, thrilling, rich and full of surprises. When you saw Hoffmans name in the opening titles of a film, you never knew what you were in for, but you always knew it would be full of exciting, inspired choices. Its a true loss to film industry. So, in remembrance of Philip Seymour Hoffman, the film that I started talking about earlier is Synecdoche, New York, an epic meditation on the meaning of life, a surreal exploration of art, love and death & one of his most notable performances & a great collaboration with another giant of cinema, here making his directorial debut, the iconoclastic, cerebral screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich, Adaptation etc.). This coming Sunday afternoon, as always at Six Eight Kafe https://youtube/watch?v=XIizh6nYnTU
