Cacaw, Bat Country! Thirdly, there is some tree planting in the works via the Temple of Wholleyness crew. Here is some info below on this: Hello Temple Crew:We invite you to join us in planting a ceremonial grove in honor of the Temple of Whollyness, Burning Man 2013, on Sunday, April 6th. The planting site is in Kentucky on a large surface minein the area of Belcher in Pike County deep in Appalachia. It is part of the 2,000 plus trees the Burning Man community gifted to Green Forests Work in order to replenish more than DOUBLE the wood we used to build the Temple: igg.me/at/temple2013While it is far from most of our home bases, it is an area symbolic of the devastating effect of unchecked environmental consumption and is an appropriate location for us to begin replacing what we use while building ephemeral large-scale art primarily from wood. We simply want to plant trees and begin a conversation about having good manners, practicing common sense and digging deeper into our broader Leave No Trace on Our Planet goals. It would be grand to have a meaningful group show up and tap into the local Burning Man communities, so hopefully some of you can make it and also spread the word. I’m going for sure, flying into Lexington on Thursday April 3rd and flying home on Monday April 7th. Here is the link to sign up: greenforestswork.org/get-involved Click to register on the “Sign Up” button beside the “Burning Man Community/ Temple for Trees” event on April 6th. Here are the detailed specifics:Directions: Google maps or smart phone apps can use "Belcher, KY" to get you very close to theplanting area, but here are general directions if coming from Lexington:Take 64 East until the Mountain Parkway exit (a few miles past Winchester), and travel on the Mountain Parkway until you reach US 23 in Prestonsburg, KY (about 117 miles from Lexington). The Mtn Parkway changes names to Route 114 in Salyersville but you just continue driving straight until Prestonsburg. After passing the Mountain Arts Center on your left, turn right onto US 23 and continue for 29.4 miles until you reach the Hwy 460/80 exit next to a large Food City. You will have passed Pikeville and will be in the Shelbiana area. After driving about 14 miles on Hwy 460/80, the road will split with Hwy 80 going off to the right toward Elkhorn City. DO NOT go this way, just stay straight on Hwy 460 for about one more mile and then you will make a left turn onto a small road that leads up to the planting area. There will be a ;Tree Planting; sign on the side of the road (if it hasnt blown over), and a log cabin house with a red metal roof. Continue up this road and either follow ;Tree Planting signs to the planting event or a GFW representative will meet you to bring you the rest of the way if your vehicle has low clearance (some areas are rocky and may damage the undercarriage of small cars, although several people have successfully driven Toyota Corollas onto the site). It will take about 3 hours from Lexington to the small road that leads up to the site. The planting will ideally begin around 11am and may continue until late afternoon. Verizon has reasonably good service in the area while AT&;T can be quite spotty; most other carriers are useless. For any questions please contact Nathan Hall at 606-471-2470 So much to do and its only April! Hope you are able to make it out to one of these great events! Kristal Light .5 RC KY
