Hello people, firstly can I start off with an apology for not - TopicsExpress

Hello people, firstly can I start off with an apology for not getting the write up out to you guys sooner! I endeavour to try and get it out as soon as possible but unfortunately this week has been very hectic, anyway enough excuses let’s talk about the games that were played in Ohakune on the weekend against the Ruapehu Rugby Club. To start off with both games were played in very cold, wet and uncomfortable surroundings and that was just for the spectators! Having Rugby grounds positioned right next door to the mighty Mount Ruapehu attributes to these conditions but all credit to both clubs for fielding teams to play on the day. We had two losses this week, our senior team went down 20 – 13 and our Premieres 48 – 7, In relation to the scores on the day that’s all they are scores on a board. They certainly aren’t an indication of the guts and determination that both teams put into their games. On the games this week, our senior boys had a really hard and gruelling match. The excitement displayed by the boys was evident from the side line and we saw the ball being freely moved around very easily with turn overs coming for our team. As the experience level of our team member’s increase I’m sure that opportunities that present themselves in the future will be pounced on to deliver results that are seen on the scoreboard! Hadlee Hay- Horton came into play at number 8 this week and he had a fantastic game. He broke the line almost every time he touched the ball and was able to set up big brother PT’s try with a “Sonny Bill Williams” like offload! Howie Campus, and “The Regulators” Lux Adams and Kiel Martin did damaging work in the front row and these old heads played some great rugby! Emmanuel did his stuff again this week getting around the field as did work horse Josh Simon with his punishing tackles. Jaye Rewai, Mitchell Overton and Russ Finn again had good running games and consistency is a good way to describe these boys. Brett, Cam and Cyrus were out this week and their experience and toughness was definitely missed. Josh Wardell did a good job filling in for Cyrus and he almost pulled off an amazing 80 metre intercept that could have led to another try. To the rest of the boys who played; a huge up’s for your contribution to what was a good game of rugby to watch. You all did your best and even though we lost 20 - 13 it was another awesome effort from the “Killer B’s”. The score see sawed back and forth and really could have gone either way. “Man of the Match” two weeks running was Kiel Martin and also good stuff for try scorers and brothers in arms “Hadlee and PT Hay Horton. We play Counties this week in a must win game, so good luck boys and give it heaps! To the Premieres game this week, some of the words that could describe this game were fast, frantic, punishing and uncompromising. On the day our boys did the business and got on the field and played rugby. Matiu Teepa had another strong game and he has been consistently improving and maturing as a player every week. His starting spot looks reassured and this is clearly down to his own efforts. Frazer Bryant had another good game and his work ethic in the lineouts, mauls, breakdowns and around the field makes him a valuable member to the team. Cyrus Paringatai stood out in the backs and he had another great all round game, his defensive and attacking play as well as his good ball carrying skills was a treat to watch. Matty Ash also did some good work as did front rowers and forwards Richie Iorns, Moo Cooper and Slade Hay Horton. Ricky Alabaster showed his determination and for the time he was on the field he ensured he made a difference. Cyrus Paringatai deserved the accolade of “Man of the Match” and our lone try scorer this week, Matiu Teepa managed to cut across the line and ensure that we maintained some degree of mana. There were definitely gaps appearing in the team this week which I’m sure we can work on to make sure we are better prepared for our next outing. Defensively, our boys could have done a lot more to ensure that the line was not crossed as often as it was but looking at the game overall it’s fair to say that a percentage of those tries came from the opposition being more prepared and succinct in the way they played the game. As far as being on attack there were a number of times throughout the game where we had the upper hand and were definitely on a strong forward momentum. Unfortunately we lacked that final push to get us across the line and the opposition capitalised on our mistakes and shut us down. I’m sure that with just one game to play before our next match up in two weeks against Utiku Old Boys, getting this team into a focussed and motivated frame of mind will be high on the agenda for the coming practices. Credit where credit is due, the opposition was a force to be reckoned with and dominated our team in almost every area of play. In saying this we would expect nothing less considering 90% of the team are representative players for the Wanganui side. We can be proud of the way both teams performed this week even in defeat. They never gave up, ate Ohakune dirt like it was ice cream, managed to come out of the games looking like models for a “ washing powder advert and really they did it all in style! Again, we can’t say it enough but “thanks to all your loyal support and for standing “shoulder to shoulder as supporters on the side lines every week, to the unending support the club has from within little old New Zealand and also to all you jetsetters living the dream all around the world, thanks again! “The scoreboard does not determine a winner, heart and soul does and this club has it in bucket loads” Keep well people, smile a lot and laugh a whole lot more, Ka kite and keep warm till next week!
