Hello precious brothers and sisters! Im beginning to study today in The Acts of The Apostles!!! Yay! Im excited to study this book because so much happens in this book. What we have here is the beginning of hope for people other than the twelve tribes of Israel. They had false gods which they thought could save them but of course were not able nor willing or did not exist. No Im not saying there are other gods. We know man has made a god out of everything. Yashuas last recorded words have become known as the Great Commission You shall be a witness unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part if the earth. The Acts written by Luke are stories of men and women commissioned to carry the news of a risen Saviour, Yashua Jesus Christ to all the remote corners of the world. Each section 1-7; 8-12; 13-28 focuses on a particular audience (if you will) key personality, and significant phase in the expansion of the gospel message. The Greek word designated Praxeis. Acts 1:1 The former tretise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 Until the day that he was taken up, after that through the Holy Ghost has given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdome of God: 4: And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem but wait for the promise of the Father, which saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. Jesus said not to leave yet, you have got to wait here. They probably did NOT want to hang out because, well they were probably being watched and followed and probably may have been in fear for their lives at this time and rightly so but Jesus said no, wait here, Im going to send you something! Something amazing was about to take place that had never ever happened before! The Holy Spirit of God was about to dwell among men! 6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel? Israel had been scattered to the four winds just about 800 years before that with the beginning of the Assyrian captivity, then by the Persians/Medes, then Babylonian and by then they had driven the tribes from the land and causing them to completely forget their identities and even to forget that they were Gods own people, for the most part. The only remaining tribes were part of Judah and Benjamin who had mostly migrated also north up and over the caucuses mountans and then became known as Caucasian. 7 And he said unto them, it is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the The Holy Ghost is come upon you: and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth. 9 And when he had spoken those things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold two men stood by them in white apparel; 11 Which also said, ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? That same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. A couple of angels were standing there!!! The word clowd here is used as a metaphor to mean a crowd. A crowd of witnesses who were there from the good side of the gulf where those who had died in the flesh had already gone. Remember the rich man could see over the great gulf to see Lazarus in the bosom of Abraham and he cried out and begged to go and just get some water, then he wanted to go back and warn his family but he could do niether? He was rich and wouldnt even give Lazarus as much as a crumb off of his table! 12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath days journey. We will stop here for today! These are long chapters and I try not to overload your donkey carts! :-)
