Hello there...I would like to take the time to introduce my daughter to the group. This is Maggie. She is 8 years old. She was born 16 weeks early. She only weighed 1 pound 4 ounces at birth. She spent a long 5 1/2 month in the Nicu. She had eye surgery on both eyes at the age of 3 months to correct the damage that ROPD did to her eyes. She spent 4 months on the ventilator and came home on O2. She has been diagnosed with Epilepsy, FTT, CP, ASD, SPD, ROPD, and small airway. She has had a total of 7 surgeries. She does have a feeding tube do to the FTT. She is non verbal. She has many sensory issues including oral sensory issues. She is continuously does things to gain sensory input. She does a lot of stimming. She head bangs and butt pumps to gain sensory input. We got a pad for the floor to protect her from injuries when she butt bumps and head bangs. She always is moving by rocking, flapping her arms, spinning, bouncing, swinging her legs, humming, etc. She even does this thing with twitching or moving her shoulder. It is very hard for her to calm herself down. At night she has difficulty with calming herself so she can fall asleep. Sometimes she gets over stimmed and does this thing were she grabs her ears, holds her head, even pulls her hair and runs back and forth screaming. When she does this we have to look for ways to calm her down. I think she would benefit from a weighted blanket to help calm her down and for sensory input. I want to thank you for your time.
