Hello to all of you again, I added this to the comments in my previous post yesterday, but I realised that many of you are probably like me and have shut off the notifications, so I wanted to repost this and to say thanks again for participating. Here is the finished product. It was done by; first using a photo I had taken of myself, inputting and overlaying the words and ages of everyone, reversing them for printing, photocopying, photo transfer with paint thinner and a spoon and lastly a bit of charcoal. Also, in case anyone is interested here is a little about why I am doing this in this manner. A bit of art history... Western art prior to the 19th century was more or less synonymous with Christian art. I am not a Christian, but it is within that culture that I grew up. The self-portrait of me blowing a bubble is meant to follow the tradition of Homo Bulla, which means man is a bubble in Latin. Homo Bulla artworks were meant to remind the viewer of the temporal nature of life and due to lifes inherent brevity a person should not focus too much on earthly things such as treasure or title. Instead people should focus on their spiritual life. As I said, I am not a believer, so much of my artwork is meant to convey quite the opposite. I believe that we should enjoy our lives as much as possible now, because as far as I know the lights go out when we die, but I am truly agnostic and believe that all or most possibilities are just that, possible. However, in this work I wanted to collect the ideas others have about life being short, so I asked three groups to respond. A group for kidney patients, another group I belong to for teachers and my friends. In the end I received roughly 200 responses. I chose a different font for each group. I hope you like it. Thank you all again and best of luck to everyone in the new year. Cheers!
