Hello to our new members! Welcome to 2015! We are grateful that you are here! If you are new to Facebook or to joining a group and if you have any questions then please feel free to post your question. Please feel free to send me a private message to ask any questions. I wish to shout out to our founding members and to send them a great big THANK YOU for your continued support! We wish to avoid those who may post What does this have to do with Brevard as we also post our own thoughts and are own memories. Once in a blue moon a post may be made that is not Brevard related but we will look the other way. There are many members who have moved away or they may be overseas in the service and they enjoy recent photos of the area as much as the older photos also. We prefer the older photos but we are not going to throw darts at someone who posts a new photo every now and then. This site was started in Sept in 2013. It is a very young group compared to other like minded groups. Not too long ago at the beginning of 2014 we only had 800 members. Now we are growing at a blazing pace. (Holy Smokes)! It is the wide variety of posts that attract our large audience. I would like our new members to know that this site like a Readers Digest magazine. Humor in Uniform, Laughter the Best Medicine, a story of this, and a story of that, and then the one big survival story. A little something for everyone. If you see something that is not of interest then scroll down to find more interesting topics. Please feel free to use the Table of Contents if you are waiting for a post that is more to your interest. As a kid my father hated Mad Magazines and I loved them. Forget the comic pictures or the sarcasm jokes or the take on the latest running movie. I went straight for the margins. They used to have tiny little cartoons in the margins. I loved these. I then went looking for Spy Vs Spy. I read these stupid magazines from front cover to back cover. Is this magazine for every body? No. Flip though it and stop at what you like and flip though to the end. This Group should be a magazine. Not everything is going to be to everybodys liking. Think of the magazines you used to read. Some issues were hot and some issue were like what the heck did I spend my money on that for? This group will have postings that will bring people alive, and put others to sleep at the same time and the next day it will be the opposite. This is History and it is the Memories. If you look through the table of contents you will find movie theaters, restaurants, night clubs and others. What do they have to do with History of Brevard? Not much. If you grew up here and ate at a long gone restaurant or watched the Shake and Bake double feature (Earthquake and Towering Inferno), or had fun at a local hot spot then a warm smile will come to your face. Please feel free to post a music video that brings back memories for you. (Bonus for 80s MTV Videos)! Please feel free to post a picture of your favorite child hood toy. Please feel free to tell us a story that happened to you. We love hearing stories of how you came to Brevard or what you were doing here in high school, or places and things that you did in your 20 years of age. Let us know more about you. This is a magazine to pick up and read. You know what you love to see in this group, and you go straight to it, and other posts you roll on by. Those in the north end of this county may have no interest in the Palm Bay or points south and those in Palm Bay may not have an interest in Titusville or points north. Sometimes something pops up that is just too cool no matter what city it comes from. This is an amazing group. What is the difference between us and other Brevard County sites, or city named sites? Not much in all honesty. What does set us apart and makes us very unique is the Table of contents in the FILES section. If a family member is talking about the Drive In theater and you are trying to remember the name and it is just absolutely driving you nuts you can find out the name or the information right at your finger tips. This is what makes us the go to place. I am friends with a couple of admins of other sites. They have seen photos here and have asked if they can share them at their group. I have Private Messaged them the picture without the History and Memories posted on the picture so that they can post it at their site. I have seen photos at another group and have begged them to post it here. Another thing I have done is to find key people and provide them a personal invitation to come and join our group. Some of these people you may not see all of the time but when a thread gets started they come out of the gate like a horse at the Kentucky Derby! It could be about the Space Center, old car dealerships, or about a person, place, restaurant, or thing. They may sit back quietly, or they may start the thread themselves. We have been very blessed to have people join this group and have added more content then I could ever imagine. To all of you I say thank you very much and know that I am humbled at your postings! I listen as much as I can to everyone of you. I want this group site to be much more than what it is today. I want this group to be the number one remember when site. I am always looking for ways to make our group stand out above and beyond the other sites. No one has the right to harm another with words or innuendo or flat out racism. There is no tolerance here in this group for this kind of behavior. I will act on this. I am shocked and outraged. I am hurt that one of our group members can be treated like so. What may be a paper cut to others can feel like a sever wound with salt applied. If you are ever wanting to leave the site in the future. This would pain me greatly. I would hope one would contact me to let me know of your complaint before you choose to leave. I do realize tit for tat can get out of hand and I do understand that a simple question can have more content to another then what may have been said. I have been on both sides of the fence. I have been the lucky guy to only see the bottom of comments and when I post it is sandwiched in between two who are arguing or fighting, and my post which had nothing to do with either people looks like I responded to the post directly above me. oops! That was not what I was referring to!! Now I put a persons name in the comment so everyone knows who I am speaking at. I post in full sentences rather then just a quick blurb. Nothing like typing you old salty dog and some person says what is wrong with you? NO! NO I was saying this to the Salty Dog himself and not you! I do not wish for anyone to feel that they have to contribute something to this site in order to be a member. There are some people who may be prolific providers of content who may feel that one who never posts should not carry any weight during a discussion due to their lack of prolific content. Would I prefer to close this group and charge $20 a year membership? Hmm? Food for thought! That would pay the gas bill to go out and take pictures! I sure hope you can have an open mind, and look past the discretions that may occur on purpose or on accident. Thank you for your membership, and your friendship! Take care!
