Hello, world - fancy meeting you here. Im aware that I covered MUCH more of the Global Game Jam last year - but between preparations for the GGJ, between streamlining the event for an audience that was almost twice as large as last years and between straight-up jamming from start to finish there simply wasnt any time. Im pretty pleased with the results. The GGJ itself went pretty smooth, the people were motivated, there was a lot of energy there. A big turn-out, high motivation, lofty (but mostly achievable!) goals, great food, pretty much incident-free. Most people managed to clear their deadlines as well. This years theme was a quote from Anaïs Nin, We dont see things as they are, we see them as we are - which opened up the floor for a lot of philosophical debate on the nature of perception. But I couldnt let the participants have ALL the fun. I enjoyed working with Gerdien Laning-Dijkstra, Friso Roolvink, Tim Laning and Jan-Jaap Severs on organizing this years GGJ, but I didnt want to skip out on participating as well. In the two previous years, Id joined random groups - this year, I had joined a premade group consisting of several people from Grendel Games. I hugely enjoyed this - it was a much more streamlined group with clear goals and purposes, and I look forward to working alongside these good folks again in the future. Nynke joined us during the awards-ceremony, and after cleaning up, we ended the event with a delicious three-course banquet at Het Leven in Leeuwarden. I was still riding a high on the way back home, but as soon as we arrived home I went almost straight to bed, where I passed out immediately. I may write more later if Im somewhat more coherent, but for now - it was an excellent Gamejam, heres to making next years even bigger and better!
