Helmetta Shelter Status Update : The Helmetta Borough Council - TopicsExpress

Helmetta Shelter Status Update : The Helmetta Borough Council voted last night to end the Receivership by the NJSPCA. Here is the actual status of that Receivership and the shelter. First all of the animals have been safely relocated out of the shelter and the animal population went from 212 animals on November 13th to ZERO by December 22nd. The Receivership and MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) that was entered into had a 30 day opt out clause that Helmetta is now interested in. The Receivership did not end by that vote of the Council, as the 30th day would be Dec 31st and after that there is a fifteen (15) day wait, that means NJSPCA retains Receivership until mid January. Niki Dawson will continue on as Interim NJSPCA Shelter Director whos salary will continue to be paid by Helmetta Borough. Nikis primary responsibility will be the development of a business and financial plan for this facility in hopes that RFPs (Requests for Proposals) are sought by the Borough of Helmetta to have another entity (private, non-profit, another municipality, shared services possibility) take over the management of this facility. NJSPCA still hopes that there is a future for the Helmetta Regional Animal Shelter, just not a future that includes Helmetta Borough from managing this facility. Moving forward please think first of the animals that were saved during this operation and the bright futures they now have. Please respect our page and try and limit comments that pertain to the animals. All of the human and political issues are beyond my control, I do have a wand BUT I am not a magician able to fix that. Enjoy the holidays.. Capt
