Help, Im An Out-Of-Towner!!! One of our most common Songtown mailbag questions is How can I get ANYTHING going when I dont live in a music center? There is no doubt that living in New York, LA, Nashville, Toronto, Stockholm, London, or some other music city gives you a slight edge in getting business done. The simple act of being present gives you the chance that something will accidentally happen. Someone will come see your show that can get something going. You will get to know a publisher through your childs soccer team. My children went to pre-school with Amy Grants children, Alan Jacksons children,, John Elefantes children and Billy Deans children. None of those connections ever turned into a cut. But I knew some people in the industry. If I had written a hit song back then, they probably would have helped me get it to the right people. But, the fact is, there are a number of things you can do to increase your chances of getting a song recorded. And there are people who live out of town and are getting cuts.
