Help! Thoughts? Last night Jon took Bandit for his evening walk. - TopicsExpress

Help! Thoughts? Last night Jon took Bandit for his evening walk. It lasted about 20 minutes at a normal pace. The temp was 71 and the humidity had gone way down. Bandit was fine upon their return, panting just a little bit. After a few minutes, Jon heard a noise. Bandit had collapsed behind him. Bandit was panting heavily, drooling, and his limbs were twitching. It lasted about two minutes. He looked alert and seemed to know who we were. After that, the twitching and drooling had stopped. I wet his paws with cool water (which he didnt like) and put the fan blowing directly on him. (We have air conditioning, so the house was not hot.) There were no changes in food or treats yesterday. He is on Advantix Plus and heartworm pills, but both we given more than two weeks ago (not at the same time). Bandit was fine playing earlier that day, when it was hotter and more humid out. We always closely monitor his activity level, to avoid letting him get overheated. We were going to rush him to the emergency vet but, at that point, other than the heavier shallow and rapid breathing which continued for a bit, he seemed to be recovering. He was alert and laying with us. We watched him very closely all night. He slept in front of the fan for a few hours and then moved to his crate. He seems fine this morning, showing no signs of stress. If it was from overheating, there wasnt any reason it should have occurred then. It was cool and not a strenuous walk. I was thinking of a reaction to a tick bite, even though he is treated. We saw no sign of a tick. Nothing like this has ever happened before in the seven months Bandit has been with us. He just turned three, we believe. He weighs about seventy pounds and is believed to be a German Shepherd/Collie/Border Collie mix. He had a check-up about a month ago and was in great shape. (He was given his needed shots then as well.) A few people in my area apply pesticides to their lawns and it had rained yesterday. I guess it may be possible there was some runoff in the road but unlikely. I am calling my vet this morning. Any ideas on what may have happened? What tests should I ask for? Thoughts? Thanks in advance - Marcy
