Help a Mom Out: She writes: Have any of the parents here whose kids are doing ABA therapy found that after a while (i.e. a year or more), its become a case of diminishing returns? My 4.5 year old has been doing ABA for a year and it has been good, she went from non verbal to verbal (though still prompt dependent but getting more independent); but lately she just does not want to have anything to do with her ABA sessions, she is totally uninterested and its fast becoming a waste of time and money. Ive suggested changes in terms of new programs they could run (more kindergarten appropriate and probably more interesting for her), but they dont seem to be interested in deviating form their programs. Frankly, I work with her every day for a couple of hours, and with me, she is pretty good about working on tracing her letters, reading, etc. and even during her ABA session, I end up getting her to be compliant and working on her programs. I guess Im thinking of stopping her ABA and working with her myself but am hesitant and scared Ill screw it up. Has anyone been through this stage with their kids? Thanks for any insights.
