Help a Mom Out: She writes: Im not sure if you can help or post on my behalf, as my child has not yet been diagnosed or evaluated. However, my concerns have greatly grown, particularly this week. My daughter is 6. In the last 8 months shes changed almost completely. She has always been known as the smiling happy girl who rarely misbehaved and always took direction well. In the last 8 months she has exhibited behavior that is not only exhausting, but worrisome as well. She has major melt downs. Her mood changes in an instant. She says horrible things to myself, my husband and siblings. She does things that she knows are wrong, yet continues to do. Pretty typical for some children. My concern is some of these things she says include I want to be good, but someone in my brain tells me not to be. She makes comments about wishing she hadnt been born, wishes her sister would die and more recently said she was going to kill herself. Shes also started hurting herself. She scratches her face, hands and arms when she is mad, sad or frustrated. These do not seem typical to me. I know children often say and do things for a reaction, but I dont know how to react to such things with a child so young. My first step is to get her to a therapist as soon as I can find a credible one. Am I over reacting to her behavior? Is this a cry for attention. Have you experienced this and if so, what was your course of action. I appreciate any feedback. Xoxo
