Help a Mom Out: She writes: My son, who turned 3 in February, is non verbal. They want to evaluate him for DDS now. Ive read and heard from others that they dont really start testing for Autism or a lot of other disabilities until the child turns 5. I got a call yesterday from a lady wanting to set up an evaluation for DDS. She wouldnt let me talk or ask questions too much over the phone but I set up the appointment for May 6th. She told me they cant really test for any Disability until my son turns 6 but he can go to a licensed phyciatrist (sp) or a licensed therapist and still get qualified with their evaluation results. Can someone please help me? She told me that OCD doesnt qualify him for services as its not a disability but on the social security website, it said it could be if it interferes with every work. Please help with any information you or anyone else is willing to help with. If he does have any disability, besides non verbal, then it is very mild to us but we know there is something there. He fits a lot of what Autism describes in various stages. Aspbergers (sp) has come up with friends of ours that have kids with it. Any help here?????
