Help! by Pastor Andrew Vuksic O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still. (Psalm 83:1) In Psalm 83, we see Asaph crying out to the Lord on behalf of the people. He was begging the Lord to aid the nation of Israel against the foreign enemies that were attacking. The wicked nations were plotting against Gods people, looking to bring them down. Numerous nations joined forces to come against Israel, including the mighty Assyrians. The people of God had no chance, at least from a human standpoint. They were outnumbered and over-powered; there was no way that they could withstand the enemy attacks. But they knew where to go for help! They called upon the Divine Warrior, the Great God of Israel, to come to their defense and rescue. Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind. As fire consumes the forest or a flame sets the mountains ablaze, so pursue them with your tempest and terrify them with your storm. Cover their faces with shame, Lord, so that they will seek your name. May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. Let them know that you, whose name is the Lord-that you alone are the Most High over all the earth. (Psalm 83:13-18 NIV) Asaph certainly wasnt holding back when it came to his cry for help, was he?!? He wanted the enemies turned to tumbleweed and chaff so that they could be blown away forever. He wanted God to pursue them as the tempest of a violent storm, where Gods wrath would terrify and shame them. Yes, Asaph wasnt holding back his true feelings when he cried to God for help! How about you, Christian? Are you facing some difficult people in your life right now? Are they overwhelming and over-powering you to the point that you have no idea how you are going to make it to tomorrow? If so, do what Asaph and the people did. Cry out to the Lord for help. Count on the Lord to be your faithful fortress of protection when difficult people come against you. Christian, our Lord is our hope of certainty and confidence. He is the one who can be relied on no matter how difficult the people or circumstances we may face. Yes, this requires faith. It requires faith to trust in our God who we cannot see or touch. It requires faith to believe that God will right all the wrongs against us, even when it seems that those wrongs are having their way against us. But faith believes what it cannot see. Faith trusts that it will be even before it is. Faith trusts that our Lord is a Rock who never rolls, regardless of the difficult people or circumstances that are currently against us. Todays Prayer: Dear Lord, I need you to help me in a big way. I am stressed and oppressed by all the people who are coming against me. I am so tired and weary, please come to my defense and rescue. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. For further reading: Psalm 83; Hebrews 11 Pastor Andrew Vuksic is an ordained Presbyterian Minister.
