You can not live with out water, but in April the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department started a heartless campaign of water shutoffs to nearly 7,000 separate families.The U.N. is calling it a human rights violation. Most are unemployed and behind on their bills. The federal government will give Detroit 108 million dollars in aid this year. Thats U.S. tax dollars to help out people in our own back yard who do not having running water in the United States of America. 108 million, not bad, huh? In fact, very bad. Interestingly, this year Tanzania will get 531 million in U.S. tax dollar aid, Ethiopia 580 million, Egypt 1.5 billion, Iraq 1.5 billion, Afghanistan 2.7 billion and Israel 3.7 billion in American tax dollars. Heres something else to consider. On August 6, 1945, the USAAF dropped atom bombs on Hiroshima leveling the entire city. Japan then was given 1.8 billion in U.S. tax dollar aid to rebuild. Take a look at Hiroshima today and compare it to Detroit. Yes, its important that a nation like the U.S take a leadership role and help people around the world, but why do we ignore people in our own backyard? I cant figure it out. Can you?
