Helpdesk/CIS Technician(kandahar Afghanistan) — REF: ADV/2777/2013/2 Our client is a subsidiary of a much larger group and specializes in providing camp and logistics services to military and disaster relief operations. Since their inception in 2006, they have partnered with NATO and non-government organizations to provide quality camp and infrastructure services in some of the most challenging and remote environments. Their services include: Camp facilities, Catering, Technical services, Airfield operations, Logistics, Engineering, Utilities & power distribution and Fuel handling. They are currently seeking a Helpdesk / CIS Technician to be based at Kandahar Airfield, Southern Afghanistan This is initially a 6 month contract, renewable. Reporting into the CIS Supervisor, the successful candidate will provide user support and customer service on company supported computer applications and platforms and will troubleshoot problems and advise on the appropriate action. Overall you will maintain and foster a professional working relationship with end-users, play an active part in representing the CIS Section, displaying a courteous professional ‘can do’ attitude. You will monitor CIS support calls and proactively respond and escalate to higher support tiers in a timely manner. Specifically you will identify, diagnose, and resolve first tier problems for users of the AFE network, User Access Devices (UAD), Passive Network Components (PNC), software, hardware, Internet and new computer technology introduced into the network. You will communicate and work with end-users in order to resolve problems within the shortest time possible. You will gather detailed information concerning call, by actively involving the end-user and recording own actions. You will promptly escalate initial first tier calls to second tier support communicating own actions taken along with end user involvement information. You will be responsible for the installation, configuration, testing and user setup of all UAD’s, printers and other components as directed by the CIS Supervisor. You will carry out other CIS related duties as directed by the CIS Supervisor. When directed by the CIS Supervisor work up to 4 Hours extra per working day beyond normal hours. You will maintain a professional, courteous and helpful attitude and demeanour when dealing with end-users and colleagues. You will report any intentional or unintentional misuse of the network and its components immediately to the CIS Supervisor e.g. reporting misuse of equipment, reporting users with local Admin rights etc. Finally you will proactively maintain your skill levels pertaining to your position and complete any training as directed by the CIS Supervisor. Requirements You should be an accomplished Helpdesk Technician and hold a Microsoft (MS) helpdesk qualification e.g. MCDST, MCP. You should have experience working in a customer service organization of a large enterprise and be experienced in providing hands on IT support in MS environments. You should be experienced using and supporting applications: Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. You should be experienced in support operating systems in standalone and networked environments and in structured network cabling, trunking and management. You should be able to quickly react to change, multi-task and prioritize work assignments. You must hold valid security clearance of NATO SECRET or equivalent and have a full Drivers Licence. You should possess excellent communication skills in English (able to speak, write and comprehend English level NATO 2222) and ideally one other language, able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner, work to tight deadlines and pay attention to the detail. Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions. This is an outstanding challenge for an accomplished Helpdesk Technician looking for something different. The basic salary is paid in US Dollars and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. In addition accommodation, laundry, local transport, medical insurance and meals are all provided free. In addition you will have the use of a phone to call family and friends and also use of the internet for e-mails etc. The work rota is 11 months on, one month off with paid flights.
